Ask the Editors

A race for residence

Posted March 4, 2008

Today we launched “The Apartment Race,” a three part series on off-campus housing. Over the course of three days, we hope to clarify the often competitive and complicated process of finding an apartment. Our reporters talked to university officials, as well as students who are still deciding and students who have made decisions. Today, Will Weiss is exploring the “push and pull” factors that students debate when deciding whether to stay on campus for another year or move into an apartment. Tuesday, Samantha Bryson will be looking at how students figure out what apartment is right for them and the various options in and out of Westwood Village. Wednesday, Jessica Roy will explore the initial steps students take to secure their housing for the upcoming year. To help students in their quest, Bruin staff members compiled a Google Map with information on North Village apartments, a profile of surrounding neighborhoods and much more. We hope our series can be a valuable resource to help students in their quest to find an apartment.

If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail Edward Truong, Bruin senior staff, at etruong@media.ucla.edu.
